Connect & Grow (13)

At Southbay, one of our values is growing together as a community. We spend time together studying God’s word, serving others and caring for one another’s needs.

Southbay has different groups for a variety of age groups and life stages. If you are looking for a place to learn and grow, we invite you to visit our fellowship groups and get involved.

Easter 2021

Come celebrate the most special season of our year together!

Explore what SCBC is doing for Easter 2021

Lent

This is the period of preparing our hearts as Christ-followers.

Lent is from Wednesday, Feb. 17 until Saturday, April 3.
During these 40 days we will go through a devotional book together.

The Pilgrimage

Holy Week is the last week before Easter, during which Jesus spent his last moments in the temple,

teaching his disciples, observing the Passover, arrested and crucified.
Just as Jesus' disciples learned some important things from Him before His death,
we will take this time to go on a personal Pilgrimage. We encourage each member to participate as an individual retreat.

Good Friday

This year, our Good Friday service will be held over Zoom on April 3 at 7:45pm.

We are encouraging fellowship and small groups to watch the service together
and invite friends who are not believers to join them.
You are also encouraged to plan your Pilgrimage to coincide with Good Friday.

Easter Sunday

Sunday, April 4 is the climax of Easter weekend, when we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We invite all to come and worship at our in-person outdoor services or view the live stream online.

Easter Together

Easter is a time for coming to Jesus. We want to take this time to share Jesus' love.
Please start praying about connecting more deeply with a friend
and inviting them to join you in connecting with Jesus this year.
We have special suggestions on how to plan your gathering and invite someone.

Give

Thank you for supporting the ministry of Southbay!

2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” Your free will donations support our mission to witness for Jesus Christ and share with others how God has brought hope and transformed our lives. We invite church members and other Christians to partner with us. Friends and visitors are welcome to join us in worship services, participate in growth groups and other church activities.

Southbay Chinese Baptist Church (SCBC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit Christian organization and donations are tax-deductible. Annual contribution receipts are issued by the church to each donor in mid-January.

If you already attend Southbay and are interested in serving God here, we have many opportunities to get involved! Please check back in the future for more opportunities.

Sunday Morning

Dramatic Arts Team: Do you have a clear speaking voice and a flair for the dramatic? Are you more comfortable on stage than off it? You may be a perfect fit for our drama team. We not only do dramatic readings but also visual presentations to help people understand truth by seeing it in a different way.

Visual Arts Team: Do you love to design stuff? Or do you enjoy using software to come up with refreshing pictures and videos? If so, we’d love your help on our visual arts team. This team works to create visuals for special events as well as designing the look for our slides and bulletins.

Media Team: Do you have an eye or ear for detail and don’t mind staying “in the shadows”? Our audio and visual techs are essential parts of our worship service, working hand in hand to control the input levels for the sound and also make sure our videos and slideshows play correctly. No previous experience required; we will train you!

Welcome Team: Are you friendly and love to meet new people? Our welcome team is the “face” of the church, since we are the first faces that newcomers see. We also help out with setting up the sanctuary to create a pleasant visual experience for people who are entering.

Worship Team: Are you a musician with experience playing or singing in front of people? We have regular rotating teams which lead the congregation in singing every Sunday and we always love to meet new musicians. If you don’t have experience, but still hope to get involved, don’t hesitate to contact us!

Breaktime Ministry

Cooking/Bringing Snacks: Do you enjoy cooking or baking? We enjoy eating! Every Sunday, we need volunteers to bring snacks for our breaktime between the worship service and our enrichment classes. We love to try all different types of snacks!

Setup and Cleanup: Do you like eating food? Then you have probably seen our food table at breaktime, which is prepared and cleaned up every Sunday. Please help us keep the area a great place to mingle and meet new friends.

Refreshment Hospitality Schedule

Children’s Ministry

Nursery: We are always looking for caring individuals with experience taking care of babies and toddlers.

Children's’ Worship and Sunday School: Do you love working with kids? We need many volunteers, from teachers and helpers, musicians, computer techs and helpers for snacks, games and crafts.

Awana/Vacation Bible School: We always need more volunteers to help out with our Awana and VBS programs. There are a variety of roles, from teachers to group leaders, snack and games helpers.

Youth Ministry

Do you enjoy working with teenagers? We are looking for responsible, committed Christians who have a heart for teenagers and aren’t afraid to be a little silly sometimes. Beware… you might end up having too much fun.

Prayer Ministry, Small Group Leaders, General Helpers, Interns, etc.

There are always more opportunities to help out! Please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information or to share your ideas.

Every Sunday morning we gather at 10am to worship God and more about Him. The Sunday worship service is filled with song, prayer and teaching from the Bible that is relevant to our everyday lives.

After our worship service, we go upstairs and eat some good food while we hang out and connect with one another.

Children’s programs are also provided.

Growth Groups (G2) are a place to grow and connect with others. These smaller-sized groups are designed for more interaction, sharing, and building spiritual friendships through exploring relevant topics from a Christian perspective. Groups meet from 11:30 – 12:30 every Sunday on the second floor of the Worship Center. Topics change each quarter.

Winter 2018

Dec 2019 - Feb 2020

11:30am to 12:30pm

Confronting Christianity

Facilitators:  Chak Lee

Confronting Christianity explores 12 questions that keep many of us from considering faith in Christ. Look more closely at these questions, and the reality of suffering, the complexity of sexuality, the desire for diversity, the success of science, and other seeming roadblocks to faith become signposts. Jesus becomes not a relic from the ancient world, but our modern world’s best hope.

Mom's Life Group

Facilitators:  Grace Tong

Come join us as we connect and encourage one another to live out our purpose not only as moms, but more importantly as disciples of Jesus Christ and daughters of the King Most High! All moms welcome.

Men's Life Group

Facilitators:  Isaac Tong

Contrary to most men's belief, men need each other. Come join us. Share life. Drink coffee.

Both the Women’s and Men’s Life Groups will be going through The Meaning of Marriage.

Modern culture would have you believe that everyone has a soul mate, that romance is the most important part of a successful marriage, that your spouse is there to help you realize your potential, that marriage does not mean forever, but merely for now, and that starting over after a divorce is the best solution to seemingly intractable marriage issues. But these modern-day assumptions are wrong. Timothy Keller, with insights from Kathy, his wife of thirty-seven years, shows marriage to be a glorious relationship that is also misunderstood and mysterious.

Book Policy

SCBC encourages the use and study of books as a way to deepen your spiritual life. While book purchase is not required for the group (you can borrow a copy for the duration of the class and return it), the church encourages our congregation to build their reading library through subsidizing $5.00 off the lowest purchase price of the book.

Friday Fellowship gathers people who want to grow in Christ, engage in his mission and support one another to accomplish it. The meetings are open to anyone who would like to connect with a diverse group of people who are trying to live out our faith in Jesus. Hope to see you there!
