Thank you for supporting the ministry of Southbay!

2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” Your free will donations support our mission to witness for Jesus Christ and share with others how God has brought hope and transformed our lives. We invite church members and other Christians to partner with us. Friends and visitors are welcome to join us in worship services, participate in growth groups and other church activities.

Southbay Chinese Baptist Church (SCBC) is a 501(c)3 non-profit Christian organization and donations are tax-deductible. Annual contribution receipts are issued by the church to each donor in mid-January.

Ways to Give

If you already attend Southbay and are interested in serving God here, we have many opportunities to get involved! Please check back in the future for more opportunities.

Sunday Morning

Dramatic Arts Team: Do you have a clear speaking voice and a flair for the dramatic? Are you more comfortable on stage than off it? You may be a perfect fit for our drama team. We not only do dramatic readings but also visual presentations to help people understand truth by seeing it in a different way.

Visual Arts Team: Do you love to design stuff? Or do you enjoy using software to come up with refreshing pictures and videos? If so, we’d love your help on our visual arts team. This team works to create visuals for special events as well as designing the look for our slides and bulletins.

Media Team: Do you have an eye or ear for detail and don’t mind staying “in the shadows”? Our audio and visual techs are essential parts of our worship service, working hand in hand to control the input levels for the sound and also make sure our videos and slideshows play correctly. No previous experience required; we will train you!

Welcome Team: Are you friendly and love to meet new people? Our welcome team is the “face” of the church, since we are the first faces that newcomers see. We also help out with setting up the sanctuary to create a pleasant visual experience for people who are entering.

Worship Team: Are you a musician with experience playing or singing in front of people? We have regular rotating teams which lead the congregation in singing every Sunday and we always love to meet new musicians. If you don’t have experience, but still hope to get involved, don’t hesitate to contact us!

Breaktime Ministry

Cooking/Bringing Snacks: Do you enjoy cooking or baking? We enjoy eating! Every Sunday, we need volunteers to bring snacks for our breaktime between the worship service and our enrichment classes. We love to try all different types of snacks!

Setup and Cleanup: Do you like eating food? Then you have probably seen our food table at breaktime, which is prepared and cleaned up every Sunday. Please help us keep the area a great place to mingle and meet new friends.

Refreshment Hospitality Schedule

Children’s Ministry

Nursery: We are always looking for caring individuals with experience taking care of babies and toddlers.

Children's’ Worship and Sunday School: Do you love working with kids? We need many volunteers, from teachers and helpers, musicians, computer techs and helpers for snacks, games and crafts.

Awana/Vacation Bible School: We always need more volunteers to help out with our Awana and VBS programs. There are a variety of roles, from teachers to group leaders, snack and games helpers.

Youth Ministry

Do you enjoy working with teenagers? We are looking for responsible, committed Christians who have a heart for teenagers and aren’t afraid to be a little silly sometimes. Beware… you might end up having too much fun.

Prayer Ministry, Small Group Leaders, General Helpers, Interns, etc.

There are always more opportunities to help out! Please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information or to share your ideas.

What We Believe

Published in About Us
Thursday, 27 October 2011 20:06

About the Bible

The Bible, consisting of the 66 books, is God’s word to all men. It was written by human authors
under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error.

About God

God is the creator and ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

About Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to heaven’s glory and will return again to earth to reign.

About The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He
provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right.

About Man

Man is made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. Humanity is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of
disobedience toward God called "sin." This attitude separates man from God.

About Eternity

Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is hell. To be eternally
in union with him is eternal life. Heaven and hell are places of eternal existence.

About Salvation

Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never make up for his sin by self-improvement or good works – only by believing in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can man be saved from sin’s penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

About Eternal Security

Because God gives man eternal life through Jesus Christ, the believer is secure in salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian.

About Baptism

Baptism by immersion symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, and is a public declaration that one has accepted Jesus Christ as one’s personal Savior. Baptism is not a means to salvation, but shows the world that one had already been saved. And while baptism is not required for salvation, it is a biblical command and demonstrates a Christian’s love and obedience to Christ.

About Communion

Communion, or the Lord’s Supper, is an ordinance given to all believers by Jesus Christ to remember his sacrifice for humanity and to symbolize the new covenant. The elements of bread and fruit of the vine are symbols of Christ’s broken body and shed blood. Communion is not a means of salvation. Rather, it is a testament of a believer’s faith in the atoning work of the cross.

History

Published in About Us
Thursday, 27 October 2011 19:40

history_424x283Southbay Chinese Baptist Church (SCBC) was founded in 1980 by twelve Christians in Milpitas who wanted to reach the Chinese community locally and also those in China. These believers started meeting in a home, but soon began to rent space in another church for a Cantonese worship service. A separate English-speaking worship service was started in 1992.

About Us

Published in About Us
Sunday, 23 October 2011 15:07

Welcome to Southbay, we are a

Christian community,

Inviting all to encounter God,

Growing together

to be more like Christ,

Overflowing his love to the world in our everyday lives

“Church” for many spiritual seekers is irrelevant and inactive. For some serious Christians, “church” has become institutionalized, commercialized, and marketed to suit the consumeristic taste of one’s own spiritual and social preference. Here at Southbay, we hope to rediscover the radical call of Christ to discipleship through an uncompromising rethinking of the basic cultural assumptions of our times through personal surrender to the call of Christ.

Our common ground is rooted in our faith in the biblical, orthodox and historical Christian gospel working itself out among the community of believers. We believe that real spiritual transformation, connection and contribution starts at where you live. Knowing God is not only about learning doctrines, but living out a grace-filled life towards everyone around you.

I’m glad you took a moment to see what we’re about. Hope to see you soon!
