Building Project Update
After a long wait, we have finally received the Building Permit from the City of San Jose. If the Lord’s willing, we will start to demolish the “house” in the first week of May, and prepare the site for foundation. We plan to have a luncheon to celebrate this event, and take a group picture afterwards. Please come and join us for this historical event.

Missions Update
The month of May is our annual Missions Emphasis Month. The Missions pledge goal hasn’t been set, but will be announced soon. Please pray for the missionaries we have been supporting so that they may continue to faithfully serve the Lord in different parts of the world.

Congratulations
Kevin and Karen were married on April 21st. May the Lord bless them with a memorable honeymoon and a home that reflects God’s love.

Mike and Sabrina will be getting married on May 12. May the Lord bless them with wonderful weather and a joyous wedding.

Congratulations
Will and Cordelia will celebrate their wedding on May 27, 2006. May the Lord bless the union of the two individuals into one identity. May the Lord also pour His blessings on the wedding day with exceeding joy.

Praise
We want to praise the Lord for a blessed Easter Sunday. We had a wonderful joint worship, and during the worship we had four families who dedicated their infants to the Lord. May the Lord bless Hannah, Kaeli, Alythia and Atticus as their parents and the church join hands together to bring them up in the Lord. That afternoon, we had five brothers and sisters baptized into the Body of Christ. We pray that the Lord will continue to cause a spiritual growth to Tony, Jenny, Luisa, Mazzie and Sonia.

Happy Mother’s Day
To the many mothers in our church, I wish you an exceedingly happy Mother’s Day. I pray that your children honor and respect you not just for today, but for who you are. Here is a quote by Abraham Lincoln to think about: “No man is poor who has had a godly

Missions Emphasis Month
May is our Annual Missions Emphasis Month. This year, we’ve invited a missionary couple Dr. and Mrs. David Leung to share with us their work in China on May 13 (Friday night) at 7:30pm . David will also be preaching from God’s Word to both congregations on May 15 (Sunday) morning. I personally invite all of you to come join us. This year, the budget for Missions support is $45,000, and the list of the Missionaries and Missions organizations will be provided for you in May. I pray that you will prayerfully and financially support this work so that we may take part to expand the Kingdom of God .

English Pastor Update
The Board of Deacons would like to invite all of you to meet our candidate on May 1st (Sunday). Pastor Jonathan Lee will be preaching in both services (Chinese service will be translated for him). After the regular luncheon, we will meet him for an “Open questions and answers” session so that you may know him more. Lord willing, the tentative schedule will look something like this: meet the candidate on the first Sunday in May, special Council meeting on the third Sunday, and special Business Meeting on the fifth Sunday. Please pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in making a decision. Pastor Jonathan brings with him over twenty years of ministerial experience. He started the ministry as a youth minister. He has also ministered in a few churches in the Bay Area.

Welcome to the Family
We had a very good Easter. We commemorated the death of our Lord on Friday night, and celebrated His Resurrection on Sunday. On Sunday afternoon, we baptized four into the family of God, who held off the rain long enough for us to enjoy the outdoor baptism. We would like to welcome all eight new members: Edmund, Jing, Emcee, Michael, Ray, Rhena, Perikila, and Sophia. May the Lord continue to bring them up into spiritual maturity.

Missions Emphasis Month
Instead of having a weekend of Missions Conference, we will have a month long of Missions emphasis. A missionary from OMF will share a message on the first Sunday (joint worship). Then we will conclude with another joint worship on the last Sunday. The Missions Pledge goal this year is $45,000. This giving should be above the regular giving to the church’s general fund.

Cantonese Evangelical
There will be a Cantonese evangelical drama, titled “Found Again” on May 31 (Saturday) at 7:30 pm. Please invite your friends and families to come watch this well-scripted and well-played drama. Admission is free. Nursery is available.

Annual Missions Conference
We thank God for leading us through the Fifteenth Annual Missions Conference. From People's Tragedy, we see God's Strategy in calling His people. From His call of Moses, we see God's Sufficiency. From His call of Jonah, we see God's Sovereignty, and from His call of Isaiah, we see God's Holiness. Only through a deep understanding of our God, we can overcome our fear and rebellion, and endure our missions.

The Pledge Goal for this year is $45,000.00. We will have the rest of this month and all of next month to collect your commitment forms. We pray that God will continue to use our church as one of His vessels to extend the kingdom of God.

Wedding Bells
Congratulations to Frank and Sarah Tong for their daughter, Joanna, marrying John Tse on May 11. May God bless their marriage, and fill the couple with love.

The Basketball Tournament
Our Youth Basketball Team played the churches from Salinas and Home of Christ in Fremont last month. They lost the first game and the won the second. Congrats! Gary Quan will continue to train them with to improve their skill. We pray that the youth counselors will continue to work diligently to bring them closer to God in their youthful age.

Praise!
To our surprise, we had nine children dedicated on Easter Sunday. It was very encouraging to see parents having the commitment to bring their children before the Lord. "Colin, Emily, Olivia, Vanessa, Brenden, Matthew, Clement, Abigail, and Joani, may the Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord makes His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord turns His face toward you and give you peace."

Thank God for a beautiful Easter Sunday afternoon for the baptismal service. The testimony of Clifton, Mike (Quy), and May was heart warming. May God continue to bring spiritual maturity to you.

New Frontier
Our church is sponsoring an outreach program headed by Mrs. Soo Lam called the "Music of the Heart." It is a program designed to teach children to read music and sing. If the Lord’s willing, the teachers will share gospel messages to the children and reach out to the parents as well. May God use this opportunity to spread the seed of the Gospel.

Minister Rebecca is assisting a Cantonese speaking fellowship at DeAnza College. The group meets every Thursday at the college. May God bless this work.

Wedding Bells!
Congratulations! May God bless your marriage!

English Pastor

Last month, we met with Pastor Peter Wang, who is a candidate for the English pastor vacancy. Pastor Peter preached from Philippians 3:12-21 to both the English and Chinese congregation. After worship, we have over forty members showed up in the sharing and Q/A time with Pastor Peter and his wife, Ann. We feel that we have a better understanding of each other. Please continue to pray for God’s guidance and our selecting process for an English pastor to lead SCBC.

Building Project Update

We have decided to postpone our Church Dedication Celebration from April 4, 2010 to October 3, 2010 to accommodate both 30th Anniversary and Church Dedication at the same time. Detail to follow.

As of now, we have secured the passage of Plumbing, Electrical and Mechanical Rough Inspections. We still need to pass one more Rough Inspection on the framing. After that, it will be the Final Inspection. The project is moving along. Site work has started, and should be done in a couple of weeks if weather permits.

Special thanks for the brothers who spent time pulling wire and putting up the acoustic panels for the AV system, and the sisters who cooked lunch for them. Great job!

Thanksgiving
The Short Term Missions team was safely brought home on Wednesday, 21st, last month. We thank God for providing them an opportunity to experience, in a true sense, what Jesus said about the “harvest is plentiful and the workers are few.” There will be a sharing during both the English and Chinese worship on May 27 (Sunday). May the Lord continue to work in their lives after this unique opportunity to witness for the Lord in a foreign country.

BASS Conference
Our church has signed up to attend the BASS conference in Castro Valley on March 1 (Thursday night) through March 3 (Saturday). There are plenty of workshops to choose from, and many of them are beneficial for ministries as well as for family growth. Since we registered as a group, you don’t have to pay a fee to attend the conference. All you need to do is to identify yourself that you are from Southbay Chinese Baptist Church.

Building Project Update
We have received “red-lines” from the City of San Jose from the previous submission of the construction drawings. The design team was able to finish with the necessary corrections, and the updated drawings were re-submitted. Let us continue to pray that we may start construction soon.
